My hagwon took the kindergarteners on a field trip to E-Mart yesterday. E-Mart is kind of like Target– the fanciest, cleanest, most well-stocked Target that you’ve ever seen. The trip was as hectic as one might imagine with 24 six-year-olds asking to buy everything but then changing their minds when they see what their friends want.
“Teacher I want mushrooms for Mommy.”
“Okay. Here you are.”
“Oh, uh, no. I don’t want. I want ham.”
It was fun to be able to review fruit, veggie, and “taste” vocabulary with them, but it was not so much fun to wrangle the kids through the many floors of E-Mart. Cathy, my co-worker, and I ended up wandering off at one point to buy each of the other teachers iced coffees. We let the kids play for an hour in the SUPERVISED playground and ball pit area that is featured in the toy section of the store. This meant a well-deserved coffee break for the overworked teachers. *Yay!*
Conclusion: Cute shopping day. Too many kids. Need to go back to E-Mart to buy tortillas and salsa!
